Getting a credit card is almost indispensable today. The funny thing is how you lose some of the services you took for granted when you destroy your American Express card like I did. Some of the basic things I took for granted were lost to me, even the simple act of buying a plane ticket to Florida. It seemed like only a few years ago that cash was the preferred way to get stuff, but those days are long gone now.

It’s now normal almost everywhere in the world to use your Mastercard, Visa or American Express to pay for goods or services you may not even need with money they do not have. How many people consider the cost of paying later when they have the convenience of having now, when using their American Express credit card. The amount of money owed on credit cards is growing everywhere. In America it is true to say that credit card debt is probably one of the biggest problems facing us.

Canceling my American Express credit card was something I had to do as I much as I hated doing it. The problem was it was too easy just hand over my card and buy things without seeing the money being spent. Charging everything to my card was stupid because before too long the debts just spiraled out of control. I was in a right state when I finally admitted that I couldn’t pay the debt.

The debt refinancing service I turned to were my best hope and I managed to get the debt repayment under control. It’s not something I ever want to repeat. Now, I have gotten my debt paid off and cancelled my American Express credit card. Most of you reading this will probably think it’s not the fault of the credit card but you need to understand something fundamental about human psychology.

When I had to pay with everything in cash, I would know just what I had at any given time. It’s easy using a credit card and at the time quite painless. I could spend money like water, and before I knew it, it was all gone. It’s difficult getting yourself into a debt problem if you don’t have an American Express credit card to start with.
