Getting a credit card is almost indispensable today. Unfortunately, if you cancel your American Express credit card like I did, it means you cannot have access to certain services you may have taken for granted. I found I couldn’t join my local gym, order clothes over the internet or even reserve a plane ticket to New York, online, the basic stuff of life. It seemed like only a few years ago that cash was the preferred way to get stuff, but those days are long gone now.

We never stop to ask ourselves when using our American Express credit card globally whether or not we need or can afford what we are buying it has become so commonplace. You cannot escape though, as the price is high when using your American Express credit card and buy it now, pay tomorrow philosophy. In some places, credit card debt is spiraling out of control. In America it is true to say that credit card debt is probably one of the biggest problems facing us.

I couldn’t think of any other alternative but to get rid of my American Express credit card. The problem was it was too easy just hand over my card and buy things without seeing the money being spent. Charging everything to my card was stupid because before too long the debts just spiraled out of control. The debt became too great for me to pay and I didn’t know what to do.

To get my debt back into a position where I could pay for it I resorted to using a debt refinancing company. This is not something I ever want to happen again. There is a happy ending though because my debt is paid off and the American Express credit card has been destroyed. A lot of people would think that it is rash to blame it on my credit card, but I think that they do not understand something about human psychology.

I was more conscious of the cost of things when I paid for goods in cash. As I said before, credit cards make the cost of things misleading because you don’t take any notice. Spending money like it was going out of fashion and it didn’t take long before it was gone. Now there is no American Express credit card; so no problem.
